We’ve made some changes to LiveWire

Regular users of LiveWire may not have noticed that we made some functionality changes recently. They’re not obvious, but they are designed to make LiveWire Campaign templates even easier to use.

When you upload a logo or header image to a template that is wider than the space provided it will now automatically resize to the correct width.Images placed in the body of the email are similarly resized. This should save time manually resizing images in Photoshop.

If the image is already smaller than the space provided then it will not be affected.

This sounds cool - will definately save time when I’m in a hurry…

    One question though:
Would I be right in saying that I’m likely to get better quality by resizing an image to the precise dimensions required for my Newsletter, using Photoshop (and exporting in the most suitable format and quality for the type of image I am creating), rather than relying on the automated resize functionality within LiveWire?

This change has simply taken away one of the few freedoms we have with these templates. A more useful change would be to allow a graphical footer, to put graphics in the title bars or to allow more than one picture per article.

Fiona, I’m not sure why you think that this change has taken something away from the template. It merely stops users from breaking the template by adding a header that is oversize. You can still add a header of any smaller size by creating it in Photoshop. If you are experiencing specific problems with these changes please let us know and we will try to address them. As for your other ideas, they’re good and we will add some templates that address these issues soon.

Simon, you are right in thinking that you will achieve a better quality graphic by resizing it in Photoshop before uploading it to your template. The autoresizing only takes effect though if the image is larger than the size allowed by the template.
